Stop the flees.
1: Stop autokicking people that have accepted a fray. If they don’t field a team so be it, but you force people to rent for 2 days under the current system if they don’t want to get kicked or end up fleeing after they submit a team.
2: Make it so if you submit a team minute 1 of a fray, that team is locked in and don’t end up fleeing if you don’t have one of the cards during the 2 days that your opponent might submit a team.
The optimal play under the current system is to do all of your frays right at the end. It may as well be a real time tournament if you want to play optimally, even treating it as a 12 hour any time tournament is suboptimal because if you submit way before you need to, your opponent might not flee.
There’s no reason to force people to rent cards for 2 days for gold brawls, especially when they barely get any frays. They just end up spending $5-10 to rent cards for like 1-2 battles and have a bad experience.
If the 48 hour period remains and the flees are stopped, this means technically we could have someone rent a card for $1 and use it day 1, then the stars could align and their opponent could also rent the card for $1 on day 2. That’s the same as now, except the curent system would have player 1 automatically flee because their $1 on day 1 is not as good as player 2’s $1 on day 2.
It shouldn’t even be a problem due to the nature of an anytime tournament. If I have the cards and submit a team, the game considers that I had all of the cards fairly at the point that I submitted. I followed all of the rules, everything was fine. Why should that result in a flee if I do it day 1 and not result in a flee if I do it 15 minutes from the end? I’m either owning or renting the cards at whatever point I submit the team.
If the problem is you don’t want guilds to be able to submit teams with the same cards, the current system doesn’t have a hard prevention for that. If someone submits their teams and all their frays complete with 30 minutes to go, they’re free to delegate me their entire collection and I can use it.
Ditching the first 24 hours of the 48 hours of team submissions would at least fix a lot of these issues if you don’t want to stop legitimate teams fleeing for some reason.
The autokick if someone doesn’t have gold cards/alpha/beta cards is awful regardless of brawl duration though.
I agree with a lot of this. Looks to me like this has 2 parts: 1) resolve the flee bug (I have a fix already implemented and waiting for release) and 2) remove some of the entry checks that don’t make sense anymore (the requirement to have at least 1 summoner & a bunch of monsters from the eligible card sets when the Brawl starts). I will be examining the feasibility of removing those checks for both Brawls and Anytime tournaments.
