I would like to see a change that allows someone renting out their cards to specify the maximum length of time for the rental (anywhere between 1 and 90 days). This data point would be displayed in the rental market screen and rentals could then only be for less than or equal to this amount of time.
Once this bi-lateral rental contract is agreed then neither party can break the rental early.
It gives certainty to the person renting out their card as to how much will be earned from the rental (and if the contract is unbreakable then the whole amount of the rental could be paid directly to the card owner rather than into escrow). This would add another incentive for providing long term rentals and stability to the market.
For the person renting they can plan more effectively and rent for the whole season etc. removing some complaints about rentals getting cancelled at end of season or during a tournament.
This proposal brings more flexibility than simply making rentals unbreakable as, for example, someone going on holiday who wants to rent out their deck for a week would be able to do so and not be locked into a longer rental.
Yes and no. I get it, it makes sense the renter would want the extra stability, but not being able to cancel the contract because..maybe you didn’t think you needed the card but turns out that card was really needed. Now you’re stuck for X amount of time without it.
Or maybe a tourney comes up that wasn’t there when you made the rental, but you believe that card is essential for it. So, you’re stuck without a card for an event that wasn’t even created prior to renting it out with a card you need.
For me idk, I would be less likely to rent anything out if you’re unable to stop the rental. That’s just me though.
