Tournament Option for Incremental Prize Distribution#72

The current prize system (for Top 4, for 5th-8th, for 9th-16th, for 17th-32nd) made sense with the old bracket style of Real Time tournaments, but isn’t as appropriate for Any Time tournaments.

Unfortunately, the tournament creation interface makes it extremely tedious to have to manually enter the place and prize.

The problems with the current prize system are:

  1. It is very top heavy

  2. It results in massive disparities. Missing out on Top 16 means a massive drop in prizes.

  3. Since 17th place gets the same prize as 32nd place (and 33rd place gets the same prize as 64th place), this means there are many situations where an additional win or loss doesn’t really matter to you. That opens the door to potential collusion. If every placement results in more or less prizes, then that makes each battle more relevant.

You would still have the option of using the current Tournament interface.

But there would also be an option for an Incremental distribution. If you select this, you enter the prize for 1st place (say 1600 SPS). And then you enter the last place that will receive a prize and how much they will get (say 16th place should get 100 SPS). Then it will automatically calculate:

1st place: 1600 SPS
2nd place: 1500 SPS
3rd place: 1400 SPS
4th place: 1300 SPS
5th place: 1200 SPS
6th place: 1100 SPS
7th place: 1000 SPS
8th place: 900 SPS
9th place: 800 SPS
10th place: 700 SPS
11th place: 600 SPS
12th place: 500 SPS
13th place: 400 SPS
14th place: 300 SPS
15th place: 200 SPS
16th place: 100 SPS

as well as calculate the total amount of prizes needed (the sum is 13,600 SPS).

OR you can enter the total prize pool for the tournament, and enter the last place that should recieve a prize, and the system will automatically calculate a uniform, unique prize distribution for the tournament. So if the prize pool is 100,000 SPS and you want the Top 50 to receive a prize, it will automatically calculate an incremental distribution scheme for 1st place through 50th place where each place has a unique prize amount that increases/decreases by a constant amount from the previous place.

I don’t know it the differences between every rank should be exactly the same (it still should be something special to win a tournament) but in general I really like this idea.
However, I think if two or more participants have the same amount of points, then prizes should be equal.

Add match modes to bronze 2 atleast!

I like the proposal AS LONG AS as jaki01’s proposal and current situation of “if two or more participants have the same amount of points, then prizes should be equal” remains true
